Hi,

Cupping has been used for years in the Mediterranean countries against colds and it worked fine. My Granny did it to my mother the site is not very nice seeing the skin rise like a puffed cake under the glass. I was not the recipient of the treatment the result:I get two colds a year each spans about 6 months!

Re:
Hi, Rainbow - I ordinarily HATE needles, but for some reason, these are not so bad. Can't imagine doing it myself though! Don't try this at home.

Acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicine, etc.

 Mal,

For many years now, I have been curious about all these ancient treatments and my natural skepticism made me suspect that the apocrophal reports could be attributed to psyhco-somatic (sp?) or placebo effects. If I am at a loss for answers to future maladies, I will try to keep an open mind about these disiplines, solely because of your posting. You have performed a valuable community service by speaking to this subject. Thank you!

Funny, that

I'm in the process of becoming in trained in massage therapy (emphasis on neuromuscular technique), and am amazed at what I'm learning about the effects that muscular pain can have on the body...

Anyway, a friend had heard a bit about the 'cupping', but thought it was a massage technique.  He said, "Do you do that massage with suction and candles?"

I replied, "If I'm in using suction and candles at the same time, it ain't a massage I'm giving!"

Uh....yeah.  I specialize in sarcasm and sexual innuendo...

He handed you the brochure AFTER he'd already done the procedure???

I am glad this helped.  I've concerned acupuncture for my chronic back pain, but I seriously doubt Medicare would pay.

Maybe I should just stick the needles in myself.  It wouldn't be the same, but it would be something.

Good that it helped you. Now you and Gwynıth have something ın common. She is actually one of the few young actresses I quite like. Thanks so much for your comments on my stories from Turkey. More to come.

Re: gap
Naut- It didn't help my husband's back, either. But there have been studies about Eastern Medicine and its effectiveness. This acupuncturist happens to also be an MD and told me "sometimes, you just need to take Advil." He's pretty cool and just the fact that I'm not dying tomorrow from cancer was relief enough to take the pain down many notches!

I'm glad it works for you, though it didn't for me. Maybe it's that you belived it would help, and I didn't. And my lack of faith was punished severely - the pain in my hand (caused by the truck that hit me while riding my bike) persists, there wasn't the slightes improvement after eight treatments! It got to be too much of a bore, so I quit...

Re:
Zen - right - men are pigs, but pigs can be cute! Get that aura back into whack!

Good for you Mal.............for being the squeaky wheel. Just the stress of living w/ "what if" can worsen your condition. I'm so happy that it turned out to be nothing serious. I am a firm believer in Eastern approaches to dealing w/ health. I practice T'ai Chi and it has changed my life (just as my instructor told me it would).

Although at Thursday's class.........he told me my "aura" was "out of whack". I told my husband what he said and my husband's response was "oh well, as long as your "oral" is still working. What a pig.
