The only thing I tend to hoard, in a way, is my scotch, although closer inspection would reveal that they're all different kinds.

But I have a hard time throwing things out. My basement is full of stuff that I know I will never use again - but in some dark corner of my mind there lurks the suspicion that I could have some use for it, some day, after all...

You may or may not be.....I've spent hours of my life on this topic....with friends, shrinks...and in my own head....I come from a family of what might be called hoarders....I've done posts on and around this topic and ones touched on in other comments here.  I don't think there is a clear or easy answer and that it's a very individual thing.  You've got me thinking about it again....and I'll probably be posting soon around the topic....as I sit here staring at all my stuff.....mentally ticking off all my compulsions.......I'm out of fingers!  Great post!

Try being a hoarder with OCD
Everything has its place even the 10 bottles of shampoo, 4 cases of can goods, every gallon of water I can save, its drives me nuts! But I'm a firm believer in use it or lose it! LOL

I have just moved into a two bedroom apt after years in a three bedroom

house.  I naturally could not take evrything. I used the large bedroom as a closet. lol. I got tired of hearing the "packers" say, "wow, you have a lot of clothes."  Do you think 50 suits are too many?

I am lucky to keep enough food to last, no extras and I do fear being in the poor house

Re: I tend to hoard correspondence...
Snail-mail being 'bills' of course.

I tend to hoard correspondence...
...in the form of snail-mail and e-mail. When the envelopes start to take over my shelf space, I finally sift through it and discard what time has revealed that I will not use.

On hoarding
II can relate to your truggle. Just today I went to buy another half gallon of milk, even though I have one unopened in the fridge. It's a special vitamin fortified milk and I have only found one store that sells it. Anyway, the only store I could find it was sold out. I haven't drank milk in days because I alaways have to have one un opened container in the fridge. I think this is due in part for fear they will stop selling the product all together.

You are right about the connection between income and hoarding! You think annual garage sales tells who the hoarders are?

Hoarding is a most interesting thing..My grandfather did it with guns..bought them..made them..and was ready for war...he had been in WW2 and saw some horrible things I think that made him do that...I think is is way to control our life that is out of control....Nice Post!

I have obsessions that I won't list...they may be interpreted as "obsessive compulsive" tendencies. Thank you for sharing. Peace, blessings and understanding.~SS

When I go shopping I buy too much, then I won't get a minute to go and ran
out.....So everytime Kar comes with me, he buy a lot.....Vish jump on him and ask why are you so greedy??? Why did you spent her so much????? this happen with J too......He also end up buying too much. Because of being busy also people get to a habit of over stocking the stuff.....It's better than not having and can't run to get it.
