Mohinder uses the tuning fork to torture Sylar and get him to admit to his true identity. He strikes the fork and holds it up to Sylar's ear. Sylar's newly acquired enhanced hearing causes him to hear the fork's high-pitched sound more sensitively than others would hear it. Finally, Sylar admits that he is not Zane Taylor, but is the man who murdered Chandra Suresh.  (NBC drama "Heroes")

Was she having PMS? I know when I used to have PMS,
every little sound drove me to distraction.  The little space heater with a constant "tick-shhhh-tick-shhhh-tick, that I had never even noticed before, went out the back door during one of my "weeks" of the month!

If sound can soothe, it can also drive one nuts! I have no doubt your
friend was affected adversely as a result of the frequency "played" on the fork.

Bel, I'd probably need earplugs.
btw...just googled an image...I've seen those before.  Man, some of those are huge!  LOL

Shelly
Like anything else it's all subjective.  I tend to be highly sensitive to certain sounds.  I am sure they work nicely for many, otherwise they wouldn't be so popular but for some they are painful.

Bel, LOL, yes, I'm at home. Thanks for not giving me a video..

I couldn't handle the torture.  LOL

So these forks are supoose to heal?  Yet, they make an obnoxious sound?  That doesn't make sense.

LOL Shelly
I am guessing you are at home so I can't give you a youtube video.  They can be highly obnoxious.  They are used in what many call sound healing, which can be pretty cool in SOME formats but those forks can go to a very high pitch and make sounds that make dogs whine in agony.
