Apparently there's no danger to the world's population of idiots.

Re: vogue, geez, did this guy ever think to maybe actually swim around a bit??
I think that guy has never heard of swimming. As for worse things- I'll watch the water color around him if I ever come near him again- know what I mean?

maybe that would be a good idea. I would have kicked him out for breaking rules.

It sounds to me like he needs to be holding something all the time ...
probably a nervous thing ... I think I'd let him hold the cell phone or the cigarette, considering his other options ... just sayin'!  Good post .. and I also hate when parents let their children dive bomb into the pool when you are relaxing on a float or swimming by peacefully.

Like he couldn't do those things...
...while sitting on the edge and dangling his feet in the water. He had to be IN the pool. Instead of "zebra-crossing," how about "ass-hole-zone?"

lets all get together and give him a fright. This guy has no manners what
else does he do in the pool one must ask!

The guy is an idiot, of course. If he wants to schlepp his damn cell phone into the pool, I guess there's little one can do. But the smoking goes too far (and here' the zealous, reformed smoker speaking, lol!) - I'd give him a choice: butt out or leave! And if he objected, I'd have him removed by the management!

Why are there so many idiots in pools? In my pool I have a problem as well. We have three lanes for swimming lengths, slow, medium and fast. In the medium one, where I swim, there are always several people just sort of 'hanging out'.  Nothing seems to help, no remarks to them, no complaints to the lifeguards - so in the end, it's self-help, in the form of 'accidental' kicks...

A ZEBRA?

Vogue - you give the guy too much credit.  Should be a PIG crossing.

Re:
No sam, smoking itsn't allowed by the pool, but some of the residents don't give a damn. And who is going to tell them off?

I like the idea of a "zebra crossing," but from what I know of zebras, they seem far more polite than the cancer trifecta walking around the pool. Maybe you could say something like "I don't swim on your sidewalk, so don't walk around our pool." That might at least confuse him for a moment.

Vogue, I am stunned that smoking is allowed to be in the pool. As for the phone, the guy took it in at his own risk, too bad you weren't doing the butterfly, you could have wiped out the smokes all the way around. Call me crazy but smoking and swimming are diametrically opposed. sam
