You say they were from Pooksielany? That explains it - they're all a bit weird down there - inbreeding I think...

Women were raised to depend on their men and you ask them their name it would Mrs. Someone, never do they say Mary or Jane

I don't think I could ever live like that!!!  It's almost like living in a nation where women have no say, cannot think, or talk, or etc........I am too opinionated to succumb to such a life!  WOW, what a story!

As someone who has often been told I frighten the male species somewhat
because I am far too independent, I cannot understand any woman who hands over her identity to her husband/partner and then lives thru him; it is beyond my comprehension; yes a very sad tale indeed; thank you for sharing

Oh y es,
this is not so uncommon.  Both husbands and wives take great pride in being 'dependent' on each other. Sadly, they do learn when a spouse dies or leaves - for a belly dancer!! Just joking! A nice in between would be what I call 'interdependence' -  a mix between dependenceand independence - leaning on wahc when we need to and yet being able to manage on one's own.

Yes, it is sad.
That level of total dependence on a husband these days is so unusual, even for the sixty-plus generation.

Awwww...yes this is sad and yes, it's prevalent in our society - this type of situation.  I am speechless ----   but, thank you for helping them Vogue ~ Elyse

A very sad story. They probably run in a circle where they will be picked up if a husband is deceased. I would go crazy to be that dependant on anyone.  sam

Wow, it's a little scary. Although, not everyone can stand on their own if they never had to, but it's their own fault for not trying.

Not surprising
Hey, Vogue - I used to be a financial counselor, and met with people to go over investments and make recommendations.  I used to dread my appointments with a certain segment of the population - mostly women over 65 - whose husbands had died and they had no clue what to do.  They never paid bills, they never wrote checks, they had no idea what kind of investments, if any, they had.  It was beyond sad.  In my household, if I don't pay the bills, they will never be paid (my husband is a financial planner, but hates the nuts and bolts and would rather me take care of the details!).  Plus, I earn my own income, make my own investments and know every iota of where our money is as a family.  It irked me to talk to these women - made me angry that they could be so naive and dependent.  But, I guess that's why the Feminist Movement came to be - enough ignorance was enough - time to take the reigns!!!!

Re:
Perhaps I'm too harsh, but asking for help is totally ok, this however was plain stupid.

Interesting commentary! I can't say for sure. Some people are artless. This I know from being in strange places and having to ask for help.
