- Go to Knight's Redneck Truth...For Taps
Interesting!
I thought it was something like from getting the back of their necks sunburned in the sun! Is there a 'cow hand brand' of redneck too? The kind that spends his days on the open range?

Funny how the origin of a phrase can get all mixed up until someone sets us
straight.

I learned something, and I love it when I do! I had never bothered trying to find the derivation of that term, having simply associated it with types who get 'hot under the collar' and hence 'red-necked' about certain issues - but this is certainly enlightening!

Well, I learned something here. I always thought the redneck part come from sunburn on the neck from working out in the southern sun. I guess my dad was not a "redneck" at all. He just had a red neck. LOL

I have known many a redneck that was a good soul, they work hard and try hard to live life the best that they can. Not, all of them are "white trash" or "trailer trash" as they are sterotyped. I think there are always exceptions to every rule, these coal miners and others are the tried and true rednecks we should be proud of.

Tattered,
Well, I'm not sure what Taps wrote or commented about but regardless about how the term "redneck" came about, well, that's all well and good. As far as the label of rednecks, well, I don't only call them rednecks, but white trash, trailer trash, etc, but I won't go into my opinions or my reasonings, of course!
