Do we need this holiday?
Shouldn't lovers, husbands and wives and others, be thoughtful, giving and romantic more often than one day a year? Valentines day can have the opposite of it's intended effect by causing lovers, husband and wives, to feel resentful if their partner doesn't observe this ritual to their liking. Not to mention the hurt to those who get left out. I think Valentine's Day is the most expendable of holidays. Lets get rid of it.

People who feel left out, need to really work on liking themselves and engaging in a little more self esteem, a little more no matter what!!! What are parents teaching their children these days. It should not be such a HUGE issue to receive or not receive a flower. I have been on both sides of the fence - during my high school years, and many times thereafter. My parents taught me to just take care of me no matter what. Getting a flower definitely should NOT be the most important thing on any day! There are so many other important things kids should be worrying about. Yeah, it's nice to get flowers, etc but these kids need to focus on the really important things and learn not to dwell on the insignificant! Hey, here's a novel idea....send yourself a flower, don't wait for someone else to do it because that may never happen!!!

That's a thoughtful decision, but I was wondering if it couldn't be the
other way round. That is, to consciously note who don't get the flowers, and get them some or give them special care and attention/

I realize the school's 'good intentions', but in this case, as in may others, the 'cure' of attempting to achieve 'universal happiness' by regulation is worse than the disease...

I don't remember getting flowers in high school...
the thing back then was to exchange cards and candy. A lucky girl might get a carnation or a single rose. Probably most kids couldn't afford it.
I understand the idea of making school as "fair" as possible. But is it really a good thing to shield children from even small dissapointments?
I'm sure there are a lot of adults that went without roses today. At some point, kids have to learn that life isn't always the way we want it.

The flowers sent to schools are disruptive and should be banned for that reason. sam
