This is great debate here. Martin Luther King is one of my hero's

and I'll love him always no matter what is written or said.

A book called, "Black like me" changed my life as a young woman.

Another thought, don't let anyone ever tell you that Australia never had slaves. And I don't mean our first nation people. I' mean the Islanders that were enticed to Queensland and put to slave labour in the cane fields.

Well done for writing this blog.

Re: YOU NEGLECTED TO MENTION CERTAIN HISTORICAL FACTS
Some of what you write might be considered "HYSTERICAL FACTS"....The Republican votes in the Senate and House are what pass the Civil Rights Act......the Democrats in Congress that switched did not do so because of one issue.....they felt their party had moved so far to the radical left side of the spectrum that it had abandoned them.

Your last sentence doesn't even deserve a reply........

Yes Corbin least we forget the true facts surrounding Civil Rights. Of course like Naut I figured sooner or later they would play the race card~

YOU NEGLECTED TO MENTION CERTAIN HISTORICAL FACTS

Such as the "Solid South", where Democrats were elected constantly and consistently by Southern States because mainly of the Civil War and the Republican Party's opposition to and overturning of Slavery.

And that LBJ and other Democrats were reluctant to pass and sign into law the Civil Rights Act because of the possible wholesale desertion of the Democrat Party by Southern legislators.  It is admitted that the Act was enacted and passed mainly due to the efforts of Dr. King and the huge Civil Rights Movement.

And it is also true that LBJ's fears were actually fulfilled.  Many anti-civil rights Democrats became Republicans, and remained in office for decades on their anti-civil rights reputations.  And many of these men had positions of power and influence in the Congress.  I am thinking, of course of Strom Thurmond, and the South (North?) Carolina senator, whose name I forget, among others.

Republicans came to power in an anti-civil rights backlash.

Interesting, and good research, as always. However stupid it is, I guess it was inevitable that the 'race card' would be played at some point, especially by the Dems. It's high time everyone understood that we all came out of Africa...
