Re: Seedlings,
Do you know if the boy your ex fathered even knows who his father is? He must be pretty confused. I believe records (for adoption) should be open as far as medical history and at least a bit of personal information regarding birth parents. I can understand the privacy issue regarding both sides IF it is requested. I can go on and on about this but the bottom line is that I deserve to know certain things about myself and my children deserve to know, too. Nowadays, it seems to be a lot more open but back when I was born it wasn't. Something in me always told me that my b-mom didn't give me up too willingly...plus there are a few other points that lead to that conculsion that I didn't go into to avoid too long of a post!

Spit
I understand your concern, it becomes more valid and urgent when you have a child of your own and as you say, you would like to know her history medical and otherwise. I too went thru a similar situation with my ex husbands family, I wanted to know my children's roots and their medical history. I failed on that one, though I did ten years of reaserch and this was in the day before home computers! I also know very little about my first born grand daughter...though I'd do anything to trace her linage with my daughters permission. She turns 10 this month. Also my ex husband had a child with a woman while he and I were married. I waited 20 years for that boy to knock on our door. He never did. I still wonder about him to this day for he would be one month younger than my own son...they would be half brothers. I think records should be open to parents and children. I don't really understand the 'privacy issue?'

You have a tough question to answer. I know I would want the medical history.  sam
