- Go to Grandma's world is dirty and muddy and moist, and smells like wet dogs.
Re: Hello Benzinha, hi azur, they are shining and it is raining and chilly.
I have had a terrible, put me in bed for three days in a Nyquil coma, kind of cold. I am better and just coughing myself inside out between Robitussin swigs. I gave up talking and that has helped enormously.
Hope you are well and that your dark heart has lightened up a bit.

Re: You need a mud porch. Modern houses are deficient in this respect.
Agree one hundred percent here. I need one room just for dogs.
I have broken asphalt to make a walkway with, but that is only one small part of the back garden. The dirt is that 500 year old talc powdered kind of dirt, probably none like it in CA.
I dream of grass in the center there, but I've tried over the years here and it is too much work to make that dead area grow anything, even weeds. I need to move, but love the rent here. Maybe sod this spring and a rototiller to churn up the talc and mix it with nutrients of some kind.

Hello. Mwah, Mwah to you too...
I always smile to see that you have visited. We have a new cat that finds creatures and brings them in to show off. Last night it brought a snake in and I am not sure if this is a trophy that got away or whether it found its own way in and she alerted us...
My heart is in a dark place at the moment and I know I am the only that can pull me out of it...

You need a mud porch. Modern houses are deficient in this respect.
You know, if you have that much open dirt in your back yard, have you considered pavers? (Oh C on rollerskates, here I go giving advice again).
Especially those of used broken up concrete. If they are too white, you can stain the older rough ones different permanent colors, or sometimes even the exposed aggregate is interesting. They are heavy and thick and need a deeper hole than the expensive new ones, but the more area you deny the mud the less they will track in. Plus, since there's space (as much as you want) between the hunks you can still have grass or whatever. You can concentrate them in the low areas that cause the mudholes and that will fill them up since everyonie tends to scrimp on the depth of their hole-digging.
My dog prefers walking on non-mud and actually climbs onto a three foot tall retaining wall to walk on top rather than get his paws wet. I put down some hastily made duckboards last winter and he used them religiously. (Pete, the pound beagle, however, was indifferent).
