Re: Azur . John MacNab, you are right.
I never thought of it like that.

Thank you so much.

You are very fortunate, Azur, to have a place where your heart beats loudest.

Re: i second...what you believ in...
So did you get the job?  It is not always a bad thing to write things we are not interested. I have learnt a lot that way and I always but always try to find interest in it. In this case, i was being asked not to use my skills effectively.

Re: blogging can sometimes be a nice escape from writing...
You always make sense to me. Yes we can reflect without judgement. We can also write anything, say anything although I believe writing from the heart  always shines through.

Pat and so I did. Take the money for my bread and butter. Write for my heart and soul.

Cringe, I know what you mean. On the other hand I must look at it as nothing more than it is - a transaction of words for money - eventually. Writing is a slow-paying business.

Jemmie. Me too regarding letting my consciousness take over. Although lately I have been writing that stuff for an audience of one and I vent my emotions there too. I have never let people I know in real life read this blog.

Mneme, funny I'd not thought of Shakespeare while writing this.

There's a POINT!
Ohmigod. I'd better find it fast after four years of loitering in other peoples' comments sections.

I know how you feel
and we both know that the true essence of journalism is 'get the dirt on things' through investigation. Everything else is fluff.

Free will is more important than knowing that there's no such thing as a free will?

I always hate writing things I "have to write."
It can be pure torture. The highest wages I ever made, even more than as a software architect, project lead, research scientist, computer consultant, system designer, etc. was writing online help for a financial application. It was as boring as dirt and if it did not pay so well, I probably would never have survived it!

Regarding the newsletter, I have only one question - "which bank?" (or aren't they using that one any more?) Please feel free to use me as one of your 'variety of sources'  if you like - I hate the way some banks have gone the way of the RTA, IKEA's customer service desk, and the deli counter - you have to take a ticket..!  Hope your week goes well.

For me it provides an outlet
It is a place I can write right off the top of my head without worrying about everything being perfect.  I just let my consciousness take over.  I don't usually care if I make little mistakes . . .well, no, that's a lie.  I do care if I make mistakes, but I always know I can go back and correct them. lol

And I can vent my emotions here without having to care what others here think since I've met only one blogger here in person--and I know she'll never hate me.  The love she and I share and the love we both have for my father keep our relationship oh-so-strong.

Sounds like you're the only one who's being authentic, and the rest are
going for the journalism cliff notes.  Cheats!  I was going to play on words with journalism fundamentalism and ;stick to your guns' but I couldn't make it work without sounding scary or unintentionally political, but you know what I mean.

This is a good place to just step back and look at the things you are writing and let a little breeze blow through your mind.

Writing the bank newsletter from a few harvested sources...
demonstrates a clear lack of imagination on the part of the bank.  You've got other fish to fry. Why worry about their short-sighted lack of appreciation for other professionals? Give 'em what they want. Save your time and creative energy for your stuff.  Let 'em eat cake.

blogging can sometimes be a nice escape from writing...
a nice escape from a variety of things - a chance to reflect without too much judgement. Those that judge are just other voices and not necessarily "real people" who know the "real you". A safe haven I guess from what is happening in life. It's just a shame that sometimes it seems that this community is very "real" with some "real" problems. Hmm, not sure if I'm making sense - but the main thing was to let you know I understood where your post was coming from.

i second...what you believ in...

few days back i went for an interview for the post of a reporter in a reputed newspaper.....i told them i want to write on subjects which i like....they asked me about the subjects which i dont like. i said....politics and sports.

in return of my answer i got a raised eyeborw!! further i told them...i might just cover up a political or a sport issue but then it the report would be a very normal one.....it would lack the punch, aggressiveness, intelligence...etc that a sport journalist or a political journo would put in a better way.....

its weird how at times at work we are forced to write on stuff we are simply not interested in......

i blog to be myself......i aint no writer...but i love to write......even if it is nothing but a small goodnite note.....

In an existential sense, what's the point of being anywhere?

I don't pretend to have all the answers.
I don't pretend to even know what the questions are.
Hey, where am I?
