I think that people are not that different in any part of the world.  You have the good and the bad. It also doesn't have much to do with freedom. Sometimes we expect too much of our own kind - our country people, family, class and group.  I have received great kindness from people in North America and almsot any part of the world I have traveled in - more kindness than meaness.  There's hope!

I think there's a major disconnection between the United States and other western countries. The two camps just view the world through a very different ideological lens.

Justi sadly you are probably right but I've been to the states twice in my
life and each time I was met with such kindness, concern, and loving care that I was left breathless. The saddest is though, a lot of NY. Americans especially, when they travel overseas don't really do their country favours.

My father had a saying that is a lot like your thought here: An arrogant man will climb a tree to show you how clever he is when he could stand righ on the ground and allow you to see for yourself. I think humility alone can allow you to see the good in another person. Be blessed.

Why?... arrogance, I suspect (a characteristic I dislike in people).  Humility is far more beautiful.

Yes I think people are pretty much alike everywhere, our citizens have become spoiled with too much freedom that does not have to be held in check. Yes the tongue is the fire that destroys. Thank you so much.

Thank you so very much. This was said so well. I agree freedom brings responsibility. There was a time in this country when money brought that too. I could not remember why that statement stuck in my brain today; it was you who gave it to me. I just used it in another post just now. I appreciate how well you said so much in so few words. Be blessed.

Debate is a good thing. Demeanning is not a good thing. It is not important to be liked by the world, I must be in line with God. It is this loss you talk about that gets me even in the wold is there not a need for some: grace, courtesy, politeness or respect? Thank you so much for your comments. You have called me on my ommissions, for that I appreciate you. Be blessed.

Yes. It is like the law, being ignorant of the facts do not apple as justification.  Thanks.

You go on with your bad self. I am a coward in many ways. I try to be truthful, to stand my ground without going on posts and starting an outburst of junk at them. But I get very angry when people accust me of what I am not doing. A wonderful comment, thank you so much.

Alot of people are naturally mean spirited and ugly
wherever they live.  I also believe freedom of speech makes people think they have the freedom to say whatever they like.  Yet with all freedom comes responsibilty and respect for others.  The tongue is a source of great evil so we have to be watchful at all times what comes out of there.

Justi.....
Yes we are he freest country in the world......

What everyone is forgetting, is with that freedom comes a load of responsibility.....the understanding and acceptance of that responsibility is what is fading. To the point that when someone is called to task for their actions...like in free speech issues.....it still for the wrong reasons.

J,

Any of us here who are willing and bold enough to write our beliefs or unleash our emotions or unveil our deepest secrets, are open doors for debate, argument, ridicule, etc.  It is nice in reality to be liked but is this not a forum where we can read or not, respond or not? We need not even allow a negative word to enter if we choose. I know reading personal stories, ideals, theories, beliefs and the experiences of others can trigger emotions; is that not the goal of great writers; to evoke, provoke or entice an emotional response in a reader?

I do encounter folks passing in my world who seem to have lost or never have learned grace, courtesy, politeness or respect much too often.  I make it a point to smile at everyone I encounter, to greet them as if they are important and to always be courteous, polite and respectful.  People in general seem to change attitudes and respond in kind.  But of course, I do live in my own little world of believe and receive.  It works for me mostly. Blessings to you!

I can see it in His eyes and hear it in His voice,
"Whatever you have done to the least of these, you have done unto me." Hurting people hurt people. It is heart breaking.

Excellent post. And, in response to your response to my comment (if you can follow that!), on your "Play fair or..." blog, if anyone, and I'll admit that so far, I've had no problems with this whatsoever - but if someone tries to get me booted for what I (or more specifically, my attorney) think are unjust, unethical, or unfair reasons, I would fight against it with ever ounce of strength (and every dollar) I have!!! I would do a media blitz, I would go to Fox News!!! Now (credible) death threats, no, they should not be tolerated. And pornagraphy, that should be kept in the "mature audiences" section. But pretty much anything else, save for slander - and apparently, anyone is allowed to slander a "famous" person. In other words, one can say, "President Bush is a murderer", just because they feel like it. But if you accuse your next door neighbor of being a murderer, and you have no evidence to support that claim, you're going to (rightly) get your butt sued off.

Are you talking about mostly mature to older people? Those of us who remember when this was a very civil country, respectful of other's religion and all that there was not this unkind slathering of verbal abuse. I find most people who grew up civil are still civil.

I have noticed that as well. Also I see people who have not been here all their lives do sometimes want to run the country they just found.

I wonder about something.  Truly, while over-wintering in FL (I'm Canadian) this year, I have to say that I've never met so many kind people.  Honestly, I was amazed.  I've never had so many doors opened to me, smiles, ma'ams', darlin's, etc.  When I came home I was in downtown Ottawa and people slammed doors, were in foul humours and I was lucky to be acknowledged.  Part of me wonders if sometimes it's familiarity?  I know this isn't an excuse, but I just wonder.  --Joy!Mary

We take too many of our freedoms for granted, and following that course; we abuse them. It is the same with our inner workings, many of us do not know who is running the country whereas those that do not live in this country know it all.
