We no longer have a democracy, not even a republic:
This system fits the definition, I think, of a plutocracy.

Right you are, Xeno-x. What they don't own, they control. Can you say
Haliburton?  No?  Then how about IBM, British Petroleum, Microsoft, WalMart, AFLAC, Viacom, Citigroup, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum...?  Politicians are controlled by them, our laws are written by them, the populace is manipulated by them (advertising) and at their mercy (gas prices, food prices).  No, it has long been "We the stockholder, in order to form a more sound and viable corporate structure, do grant by proxy to the governing board the power to ordain and establish whatever necessary to insure maximum and continual dividends..."

Spot on with this post Xeno!
It stopped being "of the people and for the people" long ago. Our government now answers to "its stockholders"!
