Only too true, R.I. The first week could just be curiousity. We'll see if
it drops and how far too see if it was only the true Mel fans and the curious...

we can like his work but we dont have to like the man, true..
it will be interesting to see how much "staying power" this movie has with all the other holiday "biggies" coming out..

Saul,
I guess we have to try and separate the artist from the art.  While I do not in any way give Gibson in the same artistic respect as I would Van Gogh, from what I have read on Vincent, Gibson would most likely make a better dinner guest.  Maybe no matzo ball soup though.

Probably so, Ciel. Probably so.

When we, like ducklings, imprint on a pretty face or heroic act,

we set ourselves up for inevitable disappointment when our Great Role Model turns out to be human like us.

We all have ugly angles, and moments when we probably shouldn't, but do let those 'Parts' of our personalities out for an airing.  We all contain shadows, we all have moments of indiscretion.

Compassion is called for:  we need it the most when we deserve it the least.

us.

I'm a fan of his work as well, kingmi. Both as director and actor. Hell,
I don't hold it against Cruise and Travolta that they're part of some nutcase religious cult, so why should I hold it against Gibson for his drunken tirade?  So he's a bigot.  So is Spike Lee and people go see his movies.  Still, I find his words more than a little disturbing.  Maybe because it reflects such a substandard stereotypical view of an people that's seen more than it's unfair share...

saul, I'm glad. I like Mel Gibson, always have. Anyone can make a
mistake.  Especially under stress.  Ask Michael Richards.

Unfortunately, you're right, Blanche. He will always have this taint on
his record, even if he remains successful at the box office (as actor or director).

Yes, he is, afzal. It could have been a wash out...
