you're absolutely right, it is scary as hell! Western liberal democracy and the whole Western way of life is under threat...

It is quite possible that we will see the rise of total Islamic states in
much of the world - Africa, Asia, and even Europe.  Add to this the growing number of extemist militants who believe that it is the duty of every Muslim to increase the umma, or sacred Muslim land, among the billion-plus Muslim population.  It is a scary picture.  Basicly, we'll see a gradual shift to religious extremism in the Eastern and Western hemispheres, pitting the Christian West against the Islamic East, with a few holdouts here and there.  And what a fine Orwellian world we'll have then, eh, guys?

OFFBEATS
Thanks! It's always nice to win things! Actually, it didn't come as a complete surprise! I mean, after staying up all night, counting pennies into a ten gallon bottle,...Just kidding, didn't have enough pennies! Just tried to use the ole noggin...

LeRoy

Thanks for dropping in!

In response to your specific points, let me assure you that wealth is not the only variable in demographic transition. (If that's what they taught you at your college, you should ask for your money back, .)

Basically, it isn't wealth per se, but a whole range of variables that are often, but not necessarily associated with wealth.

And it isn't part of Steyn's bottom line that Islam has to be destroyed. He knows that ain't happening. Change is a different issue, but I'll get to that in a subsequent post...

Finally, I don't know how to 'naturally select' for conservative Catholic families...

What do you think of Steyn's bottom line that Islam will either have to be destroyed or changed?  i took demography in college and what we were taught has turned out to be hogwash.  They said only wealthy countries go through "demographic transition" but birthrates are catastrophic in some very poor places like Russia.  Why isn't there a "natural selection" for conservative Catholic families in these countries?

Corbin,
I have seen similar projections, though not this one. I have a strong suspicion, however, that they are not taking into account the fact that the Russians are probably the most xenophobic people in Europe. As a result, the current trend will probably not continue, and there may well be some really nasty situations developing...

Naut....

I been dealing with this more and more lately...she is have a hard time adjusting to new medication or a new obsession....I guess.....but enough of that silliness......

Here's a piece of info to grab you, Naut..........

The Washington Times reports (11/21/06) that Russia is well on its way to becoming an Islamic country. Within eight years (by 2015) over half the soldiers in the Russian Army will be Muslim. By 2020, over 20% of Russia's entire population will be Muslim.

kingmi,
thanks for dropping in. I will have more on this, although the interest seems to be minimal...

Blanche.
I am surprised! This post is not about Corbin, but about a book and the important issues it deals with...

Instead of Whack-A-Mole someone should invent Whack-A-Corbin

Since logic, reason, and credible sources do not penetrate that thick skull.  And please do not chide me for bad manners. He started it. (and he'd say the same about me, since we cannot proceed past the kindergarten school of playground ethics, then I'd just rather not even engage.  As they say in college, "Do not engage the Borg, it never dies).

ps, Corbin, don't waste your typing fingers, cause I skim right over your drivel.

Why are you surprised I haven't commented here, Nautikos?
I pick my battles with your group way more carefully than that.  I only have so much patience and Corbin has exceeded it repeatedly. I get tired of shootng him down and having him pop back up, without acknowledging reason, logic or facts, like some demented puppet.  Please, I'm tired of this game and his mouth.
