It costs nothing to be polite and friendly.
I don't know why more people aren't.  thanks for sharing.

Just let them give you the funny looks

It's making the world a little bit nicer one smile, one "hello"at a time.  I do it all the time, and get the weird looks too but that's ok, some days mine might be the only smile or greeting somebody gets.  Let's just keep on doing what we are doing!

vancouver has the farmer's markets, too, and they are expensive. far
better, vancouver has numerous community gardens.  for $25 you get a small garden plot to grow whatever you want, the deal is it has to be done without chemicals, all the gardens are organic.  a friend and i shared a plot one year, fresh veggies made the dinner plate exquisite.

Absolutely positive
It's important o relate to people.  That's what I love about living in India.  Can't get away from people, and sometimes that's a burden.  But, I find that it keeps me rooted - interacting with the vegetable seller, the woman who cleans our home/office in the city, children who use the driveway to cycle, my patients, friends, parking lot attednants -  the list is endless.

It's true.......I see a lot of people at work and school. But I don't get
time to get out and have fun.......but I do be in touch with people on phone or email, being alone is hard

Mix if you want to live longer

Hi Ruth-

Thanks for your comments on my bit about traveling alone. I envy your ability to work and live alone- I do neither right  now. I deal with customers all day long, and my desire is to be a freelance writer.

I enjoy your writing- I saw that you had a segment on London. I'm planning a trip to London next fall- would love to learn more about it.

Uh, oh!!  Looks like my life is a short one!!  I'm very friendly to people, (well, at least I try to be) but unless I know you extremely well, I don't socialise much.  Just too shy...

live longer
I am pretty much a loner, but work where there is a lot people and I am on the phone all day, does that count as social?  And when I do go to the store I might just talk to anyone and they do look at me weird.  People are funny.  Maybe that is why my mom lived to be 90 she was very social.
