TAPS, Offbeats and Justi, thanks for your kind comments!
Abbie is all better now, and back to her very cheerful self.  She fixed dinner on Friday for 11, and it was delicious!

Janes

Sorry about your neice and wish I had some words of widsom to offer up, but I don't.. I do hope by now she is better..

So what was the house boat like? I think that would be a great way to spend a vacation. Everything you want under one roof and on the water would be just perfect!

JanesOpinion, I read this the day that you posted it but it looks like I got away without commenting.  I hope that by now the poor little sick one is all better and that no one else came down with anything and that you are all right.   Sometimes those things happen.   When I was little, I broke out with the measles on the MKT train from Kansas City to Muskogee, OK.  There was quite a stir on the train.  I didn't understand about contagion and kept telling everyone that I was not sick.  I was so afraid that I was going to miss out on something (and I did).  I spent the rest of the time or our trip quarantined at my grandmother's house.

star4you, we did that -- and she vomitted shortly after.
So we went back to gatoraide.  But thanks for suggesting, and I am pleased to report that now she is doing tons better!

Hope she gets to feeling better real quick.

This is stupid but that new 'tickle me Elmo' even makes me laugh. Don't know if it would help but....

Corbin, I'll look into that. Thanks! She loves animals.
It's probably 4-5 hours away.

Has she seen "The Lion King"?
It's in Cincinnati in April....Is that close for you?

Houseboating is a load of fun!

Nautikos, thanks for your kind thoughts!

You know, I'm always amazed at how quick people motor off to see the doctor.  Although I believe a trip to the ER for Abbie was appropriate, many others I see come in at the drop of a hat, with cold symptoms for less than 24 hours.   Hello!  I cannot fix a cold with an antibiotic!!!!

As I write this, my mom is talking to my sis and getting an update on Abbie.  It sounds like she is some better.  Her throat is less sore and she had a really good night.  So I am thankful!

A trip to Disneyland?  Not a bad idea for someone who knows little about 11 year olds!!!

Jane,

sorry to hear about poor Abbie's illness. But I can fully understand your family's reluctance to visit members of the medical profession (unless they happen to be family members as well, of course ), being afflicted with the same condition!

But what to do for Abbie! I haven't got much experience with girls of that age group, , but maybe a trip to Disneyland...

Well, I hope you write some more about it then...
I have never known anyone who arranged to do that sort of thing... G'night!

That's OK FactorFiction. I've been brewing some ideas of my own.
Houseboating is wonderful!  You should give it a try someday.  You won't be disappointed (unless, of course, you have a sick child onboard . . . .)

Sorry I have no clue what 11YO girls like these days
Houseboating sounds interesting as a vacation...

Hmmmm, good idea babe_rocks.

I will ponder that.  I have thought of a "girl's night out" as being a possibility.  She loves chick flicks but rarely gets to see them.

Thanks!

The first free weekend that she is completely well, take her somewhere fun.
