PostSmile!   I'm sure that your father knew how deeply you cared and knowing some one loves and cares about you is a blessing to some one who is sick and suffering. Your presence eased his pain.

Bless you for being there for him and giving him the comfort he needed.

People often focus on the doing
but it is the being there that really counts

The fear of being alone
when someone is terminal or seriously ill just knowing that there is someone else in the room brings comfort.  It also helps to lower a cardiac patients heart rate, thus letting the medication work as it should.  It also help a comatose patient because even in a comatose state a person can still smell and hear.  A dear friend of mine who had seriously been injured in a car accident and could not even open his eyes because of the swelling from the accident knew I was in the ICU room with him because he could smell my perfume as I later found out,  I have witnessed these episodes numerous times when I was a ER and Trauma Nurse many years ago.

As a child when we are afraid we feel better having our parents around.  I suspect your father had a similar relief with you around.

No matter how many times I read this post, it always makes me cry!!  Grandpa always used to say how much better he felt when I came to visit him.  When he was in too much pain to hold me anymore, I held his hands and rubbed them for him.  That always made me feel better.

Your parents were blessed to have you for a daughter...

Thanks for reminding us that it is not always the conversation or activity that counts......just being there for someone is priceless.

You're a great caregiver. It's comforting to know someone cares.
