Very creepy indeed, citreena, and when did you say the the two deaf children were arriving?

deaf lady

I too get loads of spam, but one worried me if they'd been watching my life. I'd gone deaf because of hayfever and catarrah and kept putting off going to the doctor. It was a spam email that said "Dear deaf lady, we thank you for wanting to adopt these two deaf children we know you will understand how they feel. If you send us your bank details etc etc etc.

Creepy and how did they know, or do they send this to everyone? Jill Divine www.divinelady.co.uk

johnmcnab...

It is amazingly wonderful the advancement in picture taking.  I bought my hubby a 2.0 mega pixel camera, two years ago at Easter and told him it was from the Easter bunny.  What is his is mine, and what is mine is mine. hahahaha  Anyway, I use the digital camera all the time and of course he wants me to. I love it, but he wanted me to have something better, thus he just purchased a 7.0 mega pixel camera recently, but it isn't here yet.  I informed him I would use the older digital for I think it takes wonderful pictures and he said he wants me to use the new one he got for us.  I am truly amazed,  the difference it makes to have the ability to take the pic and see it on the computer.  No more paying for film and pictures that didn't even come out.  Oh, it would have been wonderful to have a digital camera to use when my children were little.  Lately, I've been into making videos.  Last night I made one with my granddaughter singing and swinging her arms and I added wonderful affects to it, fireworks and bubbles with her in each bubble.   It is really neat.  The other night I made a video of over one hundred pictures for my hubby, with the theme of our Harley Davidson and I picked some really fast beat cool music to accompany the video and added my voice audio and messages on the pics throughout.  Hubby can't believe I enjoy making videos so much.

So much information is at our fingertips now online, that I understand your saying that you have shelves of books that you seldom need.  I have collected books for years, also.

Anyway, Modern tech is amazing and I am glad that I have the ability to learn new things.  Until next time...... take care.

jacenta

Computers amaze me daily, jacenta.  I have a bookcase full of encyclopedias, reference books and atlases which I never open nowadays.  Anything I want to know I can find out online.  I don't know what I used to do before they came into my life.

I do remember when the first Pet came on the market - I think it was an Apple - My younger daughter and I went into Edinburgh to buy one so that it could help me with my business.  I was bewildered when the salesman explained that the computer needed software and couldn't do the job I wanted it for.  When I finally bought a computer (Windows 95), I went to evening classes and wasted three years learning programming and software which was out of date as I walked out of the college.

Nowadays I tend to let the in-house computer technician (Ell) solve all my computer problems.  I keep promising myself to do it myself but when she offers to take over I move out of this chair like a scalded cat (actually she throws me off as my fumbling irritates her).  The other amazing thing, apart from web-cams, is digital cameras.   I bought one three years ago and gave my Canon A1 away.  The wonderful ability to take hundreds of photographs at no expense and then delete all the ones that aren't up to standard makes me smile whenever I pick up the Pentax.

Blanche

LOL at being in the shower and phoning - may as well make toast in there as well, no?    Lightning could be potentially hazardous to a computer's health, Blanche.  We have a surge protector on our computers but the storms of the past few days have made me wary, even if Ell says it is safe.  However, I did notice yesterday that she had hers switched off as well.  Apart from the fact that we've had a few electricity cut-offs.  The lightning has been spectacular but too close for comfort sometimes.

THAT'S what it is!  I do a couple of online surveys in my own name.  I still haven't worked out how to get johnmcnab back online.  Every time I try, I get told it is unavailable.  I may end up having to spend a whole day phoning a computer helpline.....hold on until I shudder.

What I was curious about was whether people knew how to 'add to junk senders list.'   Before I knew that, I used to get tons of them.

Hello johnmcnab...

I am constantly cleaning my computer and getting rid of unneeded files.  I am amazed at the junk files that can be deleted that I didn't even know were there.  My husband teases me all the time because I move files where I want them and delete what I want.  I have learned my system well and I keep it cleaner than I do my house.  My email client filters my mail first and very little makes it through to my junk mail in my in box .

I worked three jobs for nine years straight to keep the wolf away from the door and I bought this computer for my youngest daughter to use on small monthly payments so she'd have everything she needed to make it through school.  At that time,  I didn't even know how to send an email and didn't have the desire or energy to even touch the new computer, although I held onto my commodore 64 computer for it was the one I used for my university classes and freelance writing.  I've learned so much that a computer can do and I wish my father could have had the opportunity to use the computer of today.  I find it absolutely amazing the things that can be done with this technology.  My father would have enjoyed it a lot, I am certain for I am a chip off the old block.  He use to love photography and writing,  just as I do now.  It seems impossible that he expired almost 20 years ago, but he is an my thoughts and heart forever.

johnmcnab, want to know what makes me really happy?  It is when I see my youngest daughter's face on the web cam and she wrinkles her little nose for me like she did when she was a young teenager.

The other day she asked me if I could see this bothersome pimple on her chin while I was viewing her on the web cam.  She kept pointing to it and typed, "do you see the pimple"?   I kept laughing, because the view of her face is a bit blurry and there is no way I could see a pimple.  I found it so cute and very amusing that I could be a part of her world in regards to such a small thing. "I kept typing, "no pimple" as I continued to laugh and smile.    She lives over a thousand miles away and we use the computer to keep in touch and my heart burst when I see her and can talk to her sometimes, three times a day.  I also watch my grandchildren on the web cam and they just make my heart swell.

We are experiencing a storm at this moment.  I hear the rain dance on the rooftop.  hahahaha  Have a great day and...

I'll catch ya later.  Tell Ell hello for me and take care.

Lightning, JohnMacNab? Um, that could potentially be hazardous to your

computer, couldn't it?  I don't know if you watch Mythbusters, but they did do a show that proved it is possible to be set on fire while using the phone during a thunderstorm, also if taking a shower.  Imagine what could happen if you were on the phone IN the shower.

BTW, I have my junk mail filters set on high, but I've gotten so much more spam, since I was fool enough to fill out an online survey about how to become an online shopper.  Idiot. that I was.  I've regretted it.

Azur
Snap, Azur.  I am overwhelmed with offers to invest my money, which is ironic when you consider I don't have a spare cent.  So far I am weathering the weather and the spam.

Hope you weather the torrent?
I am overwhelmed by offers of work and cheap degrees  which seems ironic when all I do is focus on getting work and studying.
