Yes one can make up anything they choose. One can also choose to be honest and not go out of their way to be on the other side of all that is moral, right and just. But whatever you choose to do with your life it is yours. Be blessed.

Justi, many people admit they don't read 200-word blogs to the end
let alone a 3,000 word article. Many of the reactions from the administration and by bloggers (by that I mean here and beyond)  do not address the issues raised in the article but  react only to what the President and others said. I think the papers that ran the story did think long and hard about the morality of publishing or otherwise they'd have printed it sooner and would not have given notice. This story reveals the schism between people who want the media to remain as  a check on the administration and those who are prepared to let that go. People's reactions will also be determined and differ according  to how much they assess this story will directly impact on their security. It also depends on whether people believe the morality argument about not sharing secrets or whether the administration hoped to avoid scrutiny.

Anyone with a subscription and a keyboard is entitled to speak here and set out their view.  That's the deal. An "about me" page proves nothing - anyone could make up one up.   I am setting out a view, not seeking or hoping to convert you to mine, and won't be dragged down to  fit in with your opinion of me by responding to name-calling and insults.

I have to wonder about you too. The idea that most people would not read a 3,000 word article is odd to me. The second idea is that you introduce an idea that the people would not disagree unless it gave them a point of contention to bite into. I am not concerned about their consultation with their legal teams, we have judges in this country who should be on death row. I feel that any freewheeling newspaper that takes the incredible freedom of press so for granted that they use no responsibility should be shut down. Checking with their legal team was only to cover their butts, not to know if they had a moral right to uncover our plans to fight terrorism.

If you want to be a voice on here rather that a thorn in the sides of any who are truly serious about life. Put up you about me page, don't be a coward and hide behind a nothing beomg slathering socialist points of view in a democratic = republic. State where you are, what your business is with anyone who even hints at a point you do not take as 100%. Then you wonder why people don't get your self help post.  What has it done for you?

Justi, I have to wonder
how many people who have objected so emotionally to the story have actually read it? The detailed  story was quite long - over 3000 words.  It reported on the existence of the program and how SWIFT is used  and raised the gray areas in the program in relation to the international banking and finance.  Quite a few points and issues  would only have been  of interest to people in those sectors.  It seems to me that the big reaction to the story came not after the story but only came about after the comments about treason were made. Then it seemed to be like a bandwagon. There is no way it would have been published without close consultation with the newspapers' legal teams.

My sweet Maggie Mae
There is no comment due you, excep God bless you and yours. You said it all. Those people who use avenues that weaken the might of the protection of our country in any manner because they are unhappy with the sitting president should be prosecuted, jailed and serve the time for treason. The leakers and those who have the far reaching rights this country allows the media to misuse it the way the NYT, LAT and Washington Post did should have their licenses revoked until they can prove themselves worthy of responsibility due such freedom of press as this country has during war time.

Naut
Yes your comment about responsibility is so appropo to our issues today. People are throwing caution, respect for the country, responsibility and humanity to the four winds just to get at a president who was elected by a democratic process. This is a shot at communism. Those who are going for these wild and crazy paybacks without regard to the consequences are simply looking back to the times of Stalin. They can't manage the things they know about in their miserable lives. What makes them think they could be better prepared to manage the world if they knew the governmental secrets. Such ignorance should be bottled.

It is difficult to think such could happen here in USA. When people side step the issues during war time just to get back at the president and get their candidate into office they will do anything. It is not about the election, it is about death to our citizens, including children. It is about the freedoms we are exercising and exploiting just to get to the President of the United States. I have never seen such a sick opposition to any sitting president.

This is so true and so sad. It is extremely sad that we have come so far technologically and can't understand right from wrong if it is not what we want it to be. Sad, sad.

I hope you will read the other comments on here and know this is why I find you so arrogant, selfish, and all the self-centered things you take for granted about this country. You are only honoring yourself, you don't know anything of any significance of history and you alone of all those who commented on here are against the good of all, only for you. You are a pitiful spaceman of humanity to never care for anything but your small self. I am sorry for you.

My dear Justi, it's frightening, isn't it? That people can be so low as to

do this awful thing.  The people responsible for this should be tried for treason and put in prison   They do not deserve the privilege of being allowed to walk on our great soil.  It does not exist for people like this, but only for those who would fight to keep it and for it's loving people.  This young lieutenant tells it like it is.  These people should be punished to the extent the law allows.

God bless you, dear lady, for laying it out there for all to see.  It makes me want to cry, as I love my country so.  My husband is retired military, as is our son, and I, myself, served five years.  There's no room in our hearts for people such as these.  Thank you for posting it and may God keep you under His wing.

Justi,

The words of that soldier are more telling and more important than all the claptrap printed in the NYT!

Let me add a comment I left at another blog regarding the NYT disclosure of classified information, which they defend by invoking 'freedom of the press':

Freedom of the press, or any other kind of freedom, entails responsibility. The responsible citizen will not engage in acts that will aid those who are committed to destroying the very freedoms he enjoys. A citizen (or group, organization, or newspaper)  that does not act responsibly, ought to face the sanction of the law. To my recollection, in the US there is a law on the books that deals with treason, is there not?

Remember "who" the original soldiers were ...
The original "soldiers" were ordinary men and women who fought for an ideal and stood up against the mightiest military at the time united only by a belief in the concept of liberty and freedom.

That's a far cry from today's military adventures. We don't celebrate the military during the Fourth. We celebrate ourselves for the courage and independence in wanting to be free.

You are so right. We may be in a worse war right now than ever before, the enemy is among us and had the same right as we have. It is a late day! God bless you.

Justi, It is very interesting to try to imagine what it would be like for us today if there had never been any soldiers from the beginning of when our forefathers came to America.

Corbin, Bel, Justi et al

I can ( just barely ) recall the riots in the East End of London between the Jews and Communists and Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists Blackshirt thugs.

The terrifying ting was ( although as a child I did not realise this at the time ) Mosley had widespread support in all British political parties, and only Hitler's overt aggression destroyed that support.

Pastor Niemoller, a martyr to Nazism put it so powerfully " First they came for the Communists, but I wasn't a Communist, so I didn't speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I wasn't a Jew, so I remained silent. When they came for me there was no one to speak out."

We are sleepwalking into terrifying, but oh so familiar territory

As a child I wondered how anyone could be for Hitler. How could Germany have allowed him to be who he is. Now those who are anti Bush in such strength are the same as being pro Hitler. They are for people doing all over the world what Islam did to the twin towers. It was Islam who killed Bobby Kennedy not OBL.... They will not wake up it appears until they find themselves in another world. Yes may God, the God of Judeo-Christians bless America and Israel.

One of my biggest complaints has always been that nobody bothers to actually ASK the soldiers what they think or how they feel.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this!

Celebrate the 4th because we are so very blessed to be in America!

Nothing changes. One recalls the enormous support in the West for Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Min, and even -- God help us, Pol Pot.

Remember those deluded people who sought out, and passed on to the Viet Cong details of serving soldiers during the Vietnam War?

Such creatures fill me with disgust and loathing.
