Justi-The increasing number of those who are enraged, fighting & destroying
property over sports games, seem to have no clue as to the good they could be doing instead. What a total waste of energy!!!

I can imagine that people of the lowest castes in India are not much heard  much like underclasses are not heard anywhere. It is a country I have always meant to learn more about.  I haven't said that free speech is open to everyone but what I have said is that the protests that you regard as angry and uncivil and achieving nothing  are an expression of free speech and sometimes the only way that people may be heard.

I think people keep referring to sports in your commens because you made the inital connection that the fans who riot at big soccer matches may also be the people who make unruly political protests. As I have said several times here and in your earlier post I don't believe they are the same and that the boorish behavior is  representative of a small percentage of sports fans.  I also believe that many people attend protests in an orderly way and that is a minority that will become unruly.

I understand India has made great strides in democratic government. Is there still a cast system in the country and do those members of society have free speech?

WOW
Either I am speaking another language or you all are intentionally missing the point.

All that sounds like Detroit after a sports championship a few years ago!

I hate to think what'll happen if the Tigers continue to be the best team in the Majors and win the World Series. But then maybe everybody will be too shocked to riot.

About ice cream  cones: They give me severe headaches. Much prefer to put M&Ms than ice cream in them.

hmmm... I'm not sure about all the underlying issues you mention, but

as for sports brawls, well, they go on everywhere.

I've found that the most fanatical of fans seem to equate their country's soccer team with their country's pride... I'm not sure why the Olympics can bring a sense of unity, but soccer brings riots?  Maybe we should take away the alcohol?  That's how they've solved most of the fights at baseball stadiums.  No beer after the 7th inning.

If the issues are not signifigant I am not sure why you raised them. You mentioned the  disparate set of issues including soccer,  not me. Every generation that protested anywhere in the world has been described as angry and lacking in civility by the conservatives of earlier generations. In that respect the ice cream is the same anywhere. As I said in my previous comment, the soccer protest was neither here nor there for the fans or in relation to world issues.
You seem to regard these events such as the Paris protests about the employment law as if it were young people who thought it might be rather fun to protest. These events do not just arise because a few people feel some anger and want to make trouble. They arise when a large number of people feel the same way about something and they cannot sit by and let it pass.  I don't understand why some people are expected to shut up and say nothing about things which impact on their lives. Free speech is for all isn't it?

I said in the post that it was not the issues but the individuals protesting the issues. Young and angry.
When I am talking about soft issues I am not talking about them being about something I like or dislike nor am I accusing you. I am talking about a group who is anti war would appear to be peaceful, non violent not an angry persona. Not so..... So many on here are full of out bursts, ugliness and all that. That to me is not about the issue but is the personal anger.
As for the spelling I apologize.
Individual behavior is ugly now.

We are still worlds apart on this point. IT IS NOT ABOUT SOCCOR OR ANY OF THESE IDEAS IT IS ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL ANGER I SEE ALL OVER THE WORLD.... not my issues, their issues or your issues, just lack of civility and anger! That is why the ice cream question. It appears you and I don't see the same symbol when we see ice cream.  Because you are still on the defence and I am still talking about random and rampant anger! Do you see that?

There seems to be alot of unrest world wide.
We see it in the streets of Paris or Germany. The weather has been pretty harsh as well. You know my own conclusion - the earth is in a state of flux right now.

My answer would be similar to that of your previous post
Comparing soccer riots (not sure why you spell it succor) to political protests is not comparing like for like. There are some lingering rivalries between some fan groups as was evidenced in Stuttgart but most of the world and supporters have moved on from that or never  felt that way.
  • The Paris riots arose from simmering tensions due to  inequalities.
  • The protest soon after related to a new employment law which would reduce security for young people  in the workplace.
  • People have protested against the WMD lie and various other myths attached to the Iraq campaign.
  • People who protest about George Bush and the republicans have as much value as those who support him.
  • The majority of professional sports events pass off peacefully around the world day in day out.  Why focus on a minority?
  • A few people blamed GWB for Katrina.  Many more were deeply  concerned about his response in a crisis.
You say that "almost all these groups are for some warm personal project or another." None of these are "warm personal projects". These  emanate from personal opinions no less deeply felt than your own. You assign no value to these protests because they do not fit in with your view but in fact their voices are no less real or valid than yours. L

I don't know if we all do walk our  "individual war" but perhaps yours is with these groups who have views different to your own.

I am not sure if it's my interest in soccer which made you think I was a he

Soccer.....What an exciting game....

What do they do???  A friend sent me an e-mail describing it as this.......

Run around kick a ball.......run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball - never score.

Run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball.......run around kick a ball......run around kick a ball - never score.

It doesn't get more exciting in sports than this...............Does it?

Soccer is a game that allows a leveling of the playing field for 3rd world countries and former empires to regain some of their lost glory............their frustration building throughout the year over their plight spills out onto the field.......That's how I look at that ice cream cone.
