It is so frustrating to have people not hear a word you are saying when it is for their best and your best interests.

The past couple of years have taught me a great deal about the public's right to know.  Luckily for me, I am a strong willed, no holds barred kind of person but I saw what the press had done to so many during the deployment.  Given I worked for the newspaper that covered most of the stories on my troops I was able to scare the life out of the reporters if they over stepped with people I cared about.

I had my own dealings with outside press and more than one reporter probably referred to me as a b**ch, including the one I threw off of my property.

The media does go to far in showing WAY too much.  I remember someone sent me a link of one of the beheadings a few years back.  I didn't realize what I was clicking on and the first image in my head is still one that lives with me.  I never went beyond the first image but I can't shake it from my memory.  There are things I simply do NOT need or want to see.

Yes, no, maybe, I don't know...

But what's new about the idea that our finances are monitored.  Doesn't everyone already know that?  Transactions over a certain amount have always been documented with the bank.  And any time you stick your credit/debit card in one of those machines you can be traced.  Doesn't anyone watch good spy movies? (Plus my brother in law is a detective...they do track that stuff in real life too.  Oops, did I just spill another top secret?)

Sure, I suppose some programs DO need to be kept secret....but as citizens, I think we have a right to know, maybe SHOULD know.  Someone's watching...so be good.  Santa (or Bush) may have to take your name off his list.

America feels like it's been spiraling out of control for some time.

Naut
Of course it does. Those people who have their heads in the sand blowing dust into the hate Bush engin are only making some very bad situations much worse. There are so many people in the satates that are angry for having a different than their choice party in the white house they are making really bad judgment calls on dangerous things for this country. That would have been an act of treason in WWII I think it should be today.

Justi,

you are raising a HUGELY important issue, the more so since, in an age of global communication, 'the public' invariably includes those who want to destroy us...

That has long been a sore point for me
That media belief that they should be allowed to reveal everything, that we should know all...it is just common sense that some things would endanger people if the general public knew about them. As if the bad guys don't/can't watch the news that we do!
