I think that kids do less of this stuff these days because of
computer games etc and very often their parents never leave their own screens.  In spite of some of the terrible things that happen in the world I think we have to let our kids have the freedom to do these simple things. I think that if we can loosen our grip a little it helps them to find their own way. I worry more that kids are so over-protected that they are less able when they have to leave.

bel

I have 2 children of my own and feel the same way a lot of times. I am sad that they will never know the peace and security we felt.

No lemonade stand.....

We lived in the country close to a big lake......

So I had a catalpa worm stand for the fishermen........50 cents a dozen

Aren't they ugly things.......I lasted one day, it was a hot July day and they all died.    My first business failure.......

Maybe I should have tried the lemonade???

my favorite candy was the mint julip, a toffee-like mint square.
could you not sit in a chair, just off to the side, not interrupting, while your daughter and friends plied the juice?  that's what the folks do here in vancouver and i'm forever grateful 'cause i love the opportunity to "pay it forward".

Yep and would end up spending the silver and copper in a day or two

There was the yummiest candy store a couple of streets over...if not for all the biking and running, I probably would have turned into a plump little kid. Did have alot of dental problems though, come to think of it...lol..

It's fun recalling those carefree days - thanks for reminding Bel.

We all had big dreams for the big wealth we were going to rake in didn't we?

Yes indeed Bel
My best friend had the biggest and best equipment in the neighborhood and kids came from all over town. Robbed their piggybanks, lol. It was my idea and I collected (pat on back) so my friend shared the take generously. Got quite wealthy....NOT!!

Good, timely post
Summer always reminds me too of how much the world has changed. Innocence and freedom unsafe...so sad. I never had a lemonade stand, but we did stage "theater" productions and set up mini festivals of games and rides - fifteen cents to swing for twenty minutes; ten cents to go down the slide, lol.
