Thanks, blackpearl. I let my frustrations get the better of me on this
post, but, as you said, I was being candid.

Hi, saul relative,
Good post.  This is very candid and the comments are very educational, also.  Thanks.  :)

Dubya was also born in Connecticut, Blanche. I really don't think it's an
act, his "anti-intellectualism".  No one is that good.  He's an extremely dangerous man, a moron with capital in the capitol.  And his fake swagger and drawl?  The GOP took note that everybody loved Slick Willy and his good ole boy personna.  And everybody loved their icon of strength, Ronald Reagan.  Throw in the Texas gunslinger swagger and you've got Dubya, the GOP's version of the perfect politico.

SaulRelative,

I may be wrong, but I believe GW is crazy like a fox, as in, he's not dumb, but he plays dumb on tv.  I do believe he is "anti-intellectual".  When did he pick up the Texas drawl?  He was raised in Kennebunkport, Maine, right?  Educated at Yale, and rubs elbows with the elite of all countries, why does he have an obvioius drawl?

How is it that the Bushes have members of family  that are native to every major electoral state in the country  GW in Texas, Jeb (God save us, GW already mentioned him as a possible "heir to the thone) in Florida and Neil in Colorado.  How is it that all these "sons of privilege" are just plain folks?  Now there is an acting job worthy of an Oscar.

What does it say about us as a country that GW adopted this persona in order to get elected?  He converted to evangelical christianity (my own particular beef with him, since I take my faith pretty seriously and don't like to see it made political hay of) during Daddy Bush's Texas campaign for Pres. sometime pre-1990.  Why is it that this country despised John Kerry as a "flip-flopper" "nuanced" or gasp, intellectual?  Why is it that someone who thinks, evaluates facts or has an opinion of their own is suspect?

TallandSkinnyPoet: Sometimes, I get a little frustrated with the current

administration and its bobblehead minions and get a little adversarial.  And I'm an equal opportunity slammer.  I was down on the Clintons during Whitewater.  I don't like Ted Kennedy.  I think Reid is an opportunist (but, hey, then, who isn't in politics?).  I will try to be a little more subtle from now on.  Maybe.  If I don't get too damned mad.  (This Cheney episode with the notes on Wilson got me started this time.)

As for the presidency, I see Hillary getting the nod or at least a vice-presidential nod (better of the two, since this country isn't ready for a woman president, no matter what people pay lip-service to, especially if that woman is Hillary) and someone like Warner getting in also.  The power of the unknown has worked before.  For the Republicans, if they have any sense, they will nominate McClean, because he is well liked by Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and moderates across the board.

And I Thought My Top 10 List Was Over-the-Top...
I just posted a Top Ten list right before you that I thought was a little in-your-face, but this takes the cake.  You're probably not going to convert anyone with this kind of language, but I certainly understand the frustration with the current administration.  I have a lot of Republican friends who are disgusted with Bush.  Who is going to run for pres. in '08?
