Sorry, kingmi...
I often agree with you, but not on this one. The fact that security in your ports and ours is totally inadequate right now is beside the point. And I don't think that it's a question of 'racism' to be against this deal. It ought to be based on nothing but a sober assessment of the risks. The question should be: will this deal increase or decrease the risks? I think the answer is clear, as I have tried to state in my own post.

JanesOpinion, the coastguard being overstretched is much more alarming to
me than who invests in companies that we do business with.  Who was it blogged today about the Japanes having enough capital in liquid form to buy and destroy every major American piece of real estate twice over.  The question is why would they want to?  This is sheer paranoia!

scoop, yes they do. It is going to be a convenient target should something
--even totally unrelated  --  ever happen through the ports.  Maybe for the weak-kneed the answer is to avoid contact with the outside world.  However, we are engaged in a global struggle that we are waging on a number of levels.  We are waging economic war, media war, battle-field war, intelligence war...it's a lot to be doing and I am so glad we have a firm hand on the tiller.  He isn't even flinching!

From what I have heard . . . .

The UAE has been on "our" side in the war against terrorism and I would venture to guess that Bush is attempting to support and reward for their stance; HOWEVER, I have also heard that about 20 or so percent of their citizens are of the Wahabbi (sp?) sect of Islam which is Jihadist and terrorist prone, while another 20% is secular and anti terrorism, and who knows where the rest are -- I guess somewhere in the middle.  I feel a bit alarmed at having a state run company come in and man our ports, with those percentages out there.  I don't wish to be racist or such, but do wonder if we are sort of inviting the wolf into the henhouse by opening up this opportunity.  Sure, our ports will be guarded by the Coast Guard and Homeland Security and such, but they're overstretched, overworked, etc.

Just my wee humble opinion . . .

comments!

scoop, May I apologize for the m-word? I would like to say first that I am
sorry to have used vulgarities, and for making personal my defense of the president.  Secondly, I would like to state for the public record that there is no "Book of the Damned".  I just made it up because I was in a hurry and pissed off!  LOL
