Assumption is the key word. Personally I'd like to think he was too concerned about his friend to give his press agent a call, and didn't want the whole story to turn into the media circus it's been. In the meantime Iran is setting up nuclear weapons. I think the nightly news should be concentrating more on that!

He took full responsibility for the shooting incident,

I'd like to believe he would fess up if he had been drinking a wee bit too much.

That said, it's my understanding that the police were immediately notified; it just wasn't released to the press until later.  (And, for that matter, when he was taken to the ER, THEY would have asked about alcohol; I am 90% certain they would have done an alcohol test on Whittington.)  So I think it is highly unlikely that Mr. Cheney was drunk, unless the police are involved in a coverup.

hey, that's what i was going to say...
in reference to your comment on Zen, that is. i mean, the experience of zen meditation as opposed to you reading about the experience is one of changing perceptions, not one of drugged dullness. pranam.

Corbin, If your only tool is a hammer, all issues begin to look like nails!

My position is

1.  Even a major political disaster like this can pass without us burning cars and KFC joints

2.  Even Dick's own wife would ask him to go for treatment if he needed it.

That's no crap.  That's love.

I was going to say, at least that crap hadn't poped up here....but wait it has.........

wiley, I'll be the first to say someone needs to fess up if they been drink
ing too much, but so far that hasn't been the case with the VP.  Thanks for the read!

factofiction, me too. At foirst I thought this was going to be a good exam
ple of how we use humor to poke fun at ourselves and diffuse tense situations.  Let's not see any KFC burning in Pakistan over this cartoon!

blogflogger, I agree. I don't think it was - she's evidently a liberal.LOL

The intoxication issue is relevant because...

1)Cheney has a history. 2 DUI convictions, one resulting in suspension of driving license (and how many times does the average drunk driver get away with it before getting caught?)

2)Hunters drink. Period. It's a manly "bonding" experience, with single malt scotch or Jim Beam. Look at incident reports from hunting accidents.

kingmi - Offensive? A few points...

It's a political cartoon. We all know political cartoonist will make hay with any topic. Political cartoons are nearly as old as our country.

Initial reports blamed Whittington was blamed for not announcing his presence. ??? The shooter is ALWAYS the responsible person in any accident (I used to compete). Period.

Anyone involved in a shooting is required to talk to law enforcement. Cheney didn't. Through his own behavior he set himself up for speculation. I have no idea why, in expressing doubts about his illegal and improper actions, your post would be offensive.

Kingmi

Well you know, I kind of feel sorry for the VP. We have hunting accidents where I live every year, some people die.

So I give Cheney the benefit of the doubt because at 76, that lawyer  should know better than to wander out where guns are being used. I think the booze wasin him.

Besides as an ex-drunk, I could see a fella belligerantly wanderin' where he shouldn't with a glass in his hand and then getting hurt over it.

I did it all the time.

OBP, what is so offensive to me is the search for stardom at any cost......

DrJPT help me out here
can you tell me what it is about this post you find offensive?  is it the cartoon itself, a part of the cartoon or kingmi's comments?  i ask not because i have a stand one way or the other, it's merely a conversational question.
