I think that the reading was trying to say that we are to use the neediness of others as a way of gauging what is acceptable to us and how we also need to get our needs met.

Balance might be the key here,

To be needed is very human...

But some can be too needy.  Or couples can be mismatched on their needs.

Hello.. I think it is really a good feeling to be needed in a healthy way. It is when someone depends on you to take care of their needs and in the process they become dependent. It is nice to give for the sake of giving and exspect nothing in return.

NEED

I can honestly say that I do not  have the desire to be needed however I do want to be desired. "need' to me is sex, water and shelter.............want is everything else.............. including desire.

It's nice to be needed, I think...

but when it becomes abusive--when someone ABUSES the kindnesses you do for them, it becomes a bit of a hinderance to be "needed" so much...
