Kingmi - No one with half a brain is even implying that the need to ...
...monitor communications between terrorists and contacts in the U.S. is not necessary.  Get a clue. What we who value our democracy are saying is that any efforts to monitor communications within the U.S. must fall within our defined established law and our system of checks and balances. The president CANNOT simply decide a specific action is deemed necessary and therefore circumvent our defined system of oversight. He who acts outside of the law without restraint, becomes the law.

Kingmi,
I followed your link and I have to say, is this the same Oliver North who participated in Iran-Contra "Weapons for Drugs" program in Nicaragua in the 80s during the Reagan Administration? I find it hard to take anything he has to say seriously. After all, he only got a set of snow tires out of the deal, he should have held out for more with all the graft and corruption he partook of, but I guess he might have been motivated by more lofty ideals.

Kingmi,
I just got back here and saw the other comments:  as an aside, Corbin, you do go on, and on.  To Justsouno, we do have a "strong presence in the Middle East", it's called Israel.   As for how I know, Bin Laden is laughing, read the transcript of his tape, does he sound scared?

Kingmi I saw that spot. This is an excellent post. I don't

know where Blanch gets the information that we could have had OBL. I don't know how she knows when he laughs at this or that. I do know those are not the points of this post.

I have no fear that we will have ML declared. I can not believe anyone would not believe we are safer than we would be if we were not a strong presence in Middle East.

Kingmi,
I don't think that President Bush was being gracious in allowing an investigation.  We have a constitution which limits Presidential power, and for good reason.  Now, my worst fear is that he will declare actual martial law and we will have goose-stepping Homeland Security officers marching down the main streets.

We are not safer than we were 5 years ago.  Mr. Bush has had his time to seek out and capture Osama Bin Laden, and Bin Laden is laughing in  his face, producing audiotapes still. I say, it is more than time the next election brings us a change of leadership.
