QuirkyAlone, as a writing discipline it's much like any other - it requires good information and it helps if it's well-written

Spitfire70, I hate that when it happens. These things do come down to interactions between people and when one person pulls out of the deal, it feels like it all meant nothing

Meringue, "imperceptibly pushy" is correct. Some people are very savvy about that. I think the other characteristic required is natural charm, not the oil slick variety

I agree with you
There's not much else for me to comment other than say I agree.

Military Wife, I think it's essential to feel that way. I was asked to put in a bid to some PR recently and they mentioned something that they wanted to campaign and I had to tell that I could not hand-on-heart say that, as I did not believe in it. Fortunately there were other positive areas to focus on

I am the PR person
for our non-profit group.  I could not do it, if I didn't believe every word I said about it.

Of all the writing-related disciplines, PR is the one I know the least about. But I just wanted to let ya know I was here...like Kilroy...hehe.

MayB,
I can totally relate. I get swarmed by even just my drug reps at work, but also by everyone and their uncle trying to convince me they have the best deal for me with their services or products. Ya know what seems to always happen is when I get the promising word from the sales person of my 100% satisfaction and to call them directly if I ever have a problem, when I have to call with a problem, "They are no longer with the company."

It is not easy to sell
especially when it is a buyer's market. To get across a sale, you have to be imperceptibly pushy, and not stuff it down the person's throat!

Oversell is overkill, that's a certain text.
