tp, So sad about THK. I seriously wanted to like her because she is a non-native born speaker of English. But I think the combination of money and aspiration, mixed with feminine controlling behaviors did her in (with me anyway).

A writer is someone....
who gets paid for writing. I get paid for being a writer. No, I don't write novels - yet! But I do get paid for articles, short stories and ghostwriting.

Its a start, a beginning. Once your name is out there it might get easier.

I think there is definitely a line but I also think that people who have not crossed it should write and that many people who are not professional writers are good writers. A professional I think is someone who either makes, or attempts, to make their living from writing.

Your comment also leads me to ponder the question: where do you cross that line from professional to ametur, and does such a line even exsist.

Your comment has actually led me to wonder what is it exactly that makes a writer professional...

Now if tigerprincess only gets a chance to look at it instead of spend it before it's made...

Technically, if you're getting paid to write, then you're a professional writer. But there is a whole continuum of degrees of professional writers. You have yet to write
The Da Vinci Code or
Harry Potter, after all.

Good for you!! A penny here, $50 there...it adds up and makes on a "real"
writer.

It's not so much the money factor as it is that it's something I'm employed to do rather than sending something out and crossing my fingers as I wait to see what happens.

It's funny tigerprincess...
...how we are hesitant to call ourselves writers until we're shown the money. The first time I got paid for an article I jumped for joy..it wasn't so much the money..it was the fact I felt legitimate in calling myself 'a writer'! And hey..way to go!!!
