I have an uncle that works for the Health Department. When I worked closer to downtown, we'd frequently have lunch together. Even though he doesn't work in the department that inspects restaurants, there was a definite change in attitude and service when the owners learned where he worked.

Thanks for the good idea, tigerprincess. I'm just going to buy a binder and casually print on the cover 'malt whisky taster,' and head for the nearest pub. Might see you later - hic.

know what you mean--
I was always taking notes at the BirdCage, and when a book I helped write on the hippies was published, I took the book to the BirdCage to show the Dancer, my girlfriend. Well, the owner saw it and decided it was about the BirdCage. I was a real hit there even though his place was not mentioned. He told everyone I had written a book about the Cage, and in fact, I did, a few years later.

So you could have gotten a free lunch there, just for writing up a review...

Ha, ha Tigerprincess. I have often figured out later ..... much later that people have seen me with a notebook or something and formed the wrong impression or even the right impression. However, I think a reviewer is much more subtle about taking notes than that. Poor man, he is probably living for the day when he gets a review.
