Archiew, I've never blocked anyone but I do see your reasoning

Good blog here . . . . .
And I pretty much agree. I have only blocked two users in my entire tenure here on Blogit. Both were blocked because of the inappropirateness of their language. Sure, one or two such slips are understood, and I just delete those; I do this because there are youngsters on these boards and none of my blogs are restricted to adult only. But if after warning a commenter and they persist in inapproprioate language, they are gone.

Scoop, I agree it is best to let everyone comment--readers can then judge for themselves

MayB I don't have a problem with it but he handled it like a drive by
shooting, he commented, then wrote a blog and when I tried to comment I was blocked.

Scoop, in that case it is better to move on and interact with people who are prepared to discuss the issue.
People have different thresholds for what constitutes argument and discussion. It all depends how seriously people take things and themselves

I don't mind getting blocked but old darkeyes blocked me
showing his immaturity to discuss issues, but I guess the darkeyedemon has blocked others here this week

Sometimes JohnMcNab writers block other writers out of jealousy or competitiveness. It's normal. It's like when two authors have books coming out. It is almost impossible not to be competitive

You are quite right when you say the blocking comes with the reading. I will read some posts a few times and if I don't like the tone or the subject matter after that I subconsciously don't read them again. We do the same with books. We all have our favourite authors.

Darkeyeddemon. There is merit in blocking those who like the sounds of their own voice. The downside here is that then they tend to write blogs where they scream for attention. What surprises me is how people usually give that attention. At that point I tend to ignore them

agreed
i have blocked certain bloggers at times, and i am still relatively new to blogit. i can respect that blogit is here so we can express ourselves, but when certain bloggers want to argue and argue a point to death, it is all too convenient to block them and they magically go away. now that does not mean that i always disagree with them, and i read some of their blogs still. but, i'm not going to entertain an argumane with anyone, especially someone who has an obvious chip on their shoulder. you made a good point, thanks for the blog.
