Further . . . .
There are tight restrictions now. No matter how tight, criminals, and the word criminal implies why, will always break those rules. We need to stomp hard on those who break the laws, n ot on those who serve to protect the laws.

MayB . . . .
We will not because you are singling out guns, and they are not even the greatest of the threats to children or to society. More children are killed and injured as a result of alcohol each year.

I agree that ownership of guns requires added responsibility, and that those who abuse guns or make them available to children need to be sanctioned in some way, legally or civilly.

Our children are in danger, we do agree there, but only because of a decline in the skills of parents to be parents, or, even more frightening, their lack of desire or care to raise children to the best of their ability.

Archiew, no I am not suggesting that. I am absolutely against the current trend of over-protecting children to the point that they experience nothing. All I am saying is exactly what i said to you the other day that there should be stricter controls on who obtains guns based on ability to handle them and also by closer checks on who obtains them.
I don't think you and I will never agree on this because I believe that tighter controls on issuing of guns would have a substantial impact in improving people's safety. You believe the opposite. As I said there are many countries where people do not find it necessary to carry arms everywhere they go and where it is not so easy to obtain guns

Again, it is a parent thing. There are many objects, which in themselves do not kill, that are even more dangerous when a child abuses their purpose. Shall we ban cars, pools, skates, steak knives, roller coasters, boats, rope, matches and lighters, etc.?

There is something very wrong when it is so easy for a kid to get hold of a gun. I want kids to be able to go out and I want it to be very difficult for them to get their hands on guns. It doesn't have to be this way. It isn't like that in other countries but sadly it is too late now

And if we never went outside
the chances of being involved in an auto accident would be greatly reduced. Such comments border on the inane, with all due respect!

Equally it might have reduced the odds of this happening if it had not been so easy for the young man to arm himself.
