fwmystic, you have inspired another post but it will have to wait.
What about hydrogen tech.?  Our dependence on the middle east will decrease in coming decades, but we still have an interest in seeing peace there.

fwmystic, I agree with you but I am hopeful that new rule sets will
accompany the new found free market.  The wealth is spread out and the power is in the hands of the many.  Tha is more like freedom, even though it's not our brand of freedom.

My theory is this: Even if the world were a perfect place, with every
nation enjoying happiness and prosperity--there would still be angry little men plotting to annihalate (sp?  dictionary misplaced...) it because the manner in which the prosperity and happiness was achieved goes against their beliefs.

Capitalism only wants new markets ...
not freedom. Freedom is not something that can be given, it has to be earned to be appreciated. Residents of the Middle East despise us because we prop up their corrupt governments to keep oil flowing our way. The president of Afghanistan is known around the world as the mayor of Kabul. The rest of the country is controlled by warloads harvesting a record poppy crop.

Kingmi
I am not referring to culture etc. I am speaking of how America takes it upon itself to organize the world and then wonders why others are underwhelmed by this.

complex world in which we live

BB, rules sets only control for rights violations. We do not prescribe
how others should live and worship.  culture is only dictated by the market in so far as individual countries want it to be.

I am not hostile to freedom - far from it. Quite the contrary
But I am questioning the way that this is being sought and the expectation that all nations should want to, or be expected to fall in line with the views and interpretation of one nation. I can't help regarding the world beyond one set of frontiers but it seems that people are not encouraged to do that.

BTW, I responded to your comment on my post.

Void-is, true but the free market requires competition! Open trade was not
the cause of WW!.  England's stupid Imperialist regime caused that one.  We now have instant media oversight of international relations, internet, and the world court.  Surely we cannot throw out the babywith the bath...

Kingmi, though I agree that stronger economic bonds between
nations lead to better relations and less terrorism, I think that the economy is also used by nations as a way to dominate over others. The US and Europe are doing this today, and in the past the British have done this to the point that WWI started and the ensuing 'punishment' and humiliation of Germany led to WWII...
