The Bible says it better than any of us can.

ditto
If you feel that the country is going backward, it is your duty to speak up about it, just as it is mine.  Excesses done in the name of right are not right, they are only excesses.  At least you don't long for the 'good old days'.  The exception I take to some of your point of view is that you feel it necessary to NEVER give credit to ANY religious trend, as if you were trying to score points in some cosmic debate.  Everybody hates bullshit, not just you.

Now I'm following you Tapsel-T
and that is where I am in life. I've just recently liquidated everything and built new offices. Everything is gone, the showroom, the shop, the old offices and all of the equipment. Now I must decide what to do with the rest of my life. I do know that it will not include the business rat race and I do know that it will include some of my underlying philosophies. Also I hope never again to hold a day job. So eat, drink and be merry could well describe it.

pappy -- well that's better
maybe you do get the point. When I suggest that no one knows anything I put myself at the front of the line. Many people do not take this stance, as if they know something that the rest of us need just be exposed to. I will always stand bye the notion that religion in general is failing the modern world, the clock simply cannot be turned back. For those who try to the results seem to be invariably the same. We've seen it recently with the Taliban's attempts to do so in Afghanistan, many parrallels can be drawn to what people are trying to do today right here on our soil. If my take on this is just bullshit I at least reserve the self realization that it could very well be nothing but bullshit. Like why would I be so different from anyone else?

LOL, Gomedome.   Sorry.   Your first paragraph just brought to mind the parable of the rich man who was so successful that he didn't have room for all of his crops.   So, he tore down his barns and built bigger barns to store his wealth.  This parable was famous for the comment, "Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you die."  Please do not take it that I am wishing anything bad to happen to you.   I hope that you have many years to enjoy your success.

And it is your right, gomedome
If you feel that the country is going backward, it is your duty to speak up about it, just as it is mine.  Excesses done in the name of right are not right, they are only excesses.  At least you don't long for the 'good old days'.  The exception I take to some of your point of view is that you feel it necessary to NEVER give credit to ANY religious trend, as if you were trying to score points in some cosmic debate.  Everybody hates bullshit, not just you.

sheilake -- what a lot of people do not realize about that situation,
especially in Shri Lanka is that it was exacerbated by religious based conflict. Any hope of some people saving themselves could only have come in earlier warning. This was impossible because the Moslem rebels controlled the outlying areas and hence had cut off communication.

pappy -- that is a pretty weak response

The general themes of all my postings are let us not make the same mistakes again and no one knows anything for certain. If you find some kind of guilt trip within these messages it is simply because you are missing the point. I was never victimized by the church. I escaped any lasting effects because I have white skin therefore have no reason to carry a grudge. But this is not to say that I cannot see the injustice that took place right before my eyes.  Simply two cultures clashed. The one with the economic and military might crushed the other and imposed their religion on them. Neither faith system was superior to the other as both were equally valid regardless of what your bible tells you.

Today we are witnessing a resurgence of Christian fundamentalism in many parts of North America. It is my opinion that this is huge step backwards for society because I have seen what people are capable of. And all in the name of God no less.

So, Gomedome, you have decided not to tear down your barns and build bigger barns?

Okay, gomedome, I'll bite
For what it's worth,  i grew up hunting squirrels in Kentucky and back in the day i could knock down a man shaped target at three hundred meters nine out of ten with open sights and i can appreciate your good shooting.  Don't worry about the old girl, she didn't even bitch when they laid the lifeless body of her innocent son in her lap.  Don't lay that church guilt crap on me, i didn't do it.  YOU are the one acting guilty and holding on to reasons for resentment.

Hey gomedome
How's it going?  Here's a good one.  Let's leave on an "Airplane for Jesus".  We should all fly to Indonesia, help with the relief effort, and then use the situation to point out that GOD is punishing the population there for not turning to Christ.  What a farce.  If I hear another news anchor, or see another news article, with the words "...of biblical proportions" I'm may die laughing.
