That is very hard. The other thing you could do is to speak to her often on the phone. It helps to have people with whom you don't have to put on brave face.

I am sorry for your loss
There just isn't any easy way to get through these things. I feel for the wife and children left behind. He had to be young. What a sad loss.

So sorry to hear about this family. Its sad when something like this happens to friends and people we know to be exceptional. You always ask yourself why.
I know you'll be there for this family in every possible way that you can. In fact the only way you won't be there is physically and really, that's not too bad.
