It is astonishing and sometimes appalling how seriously some folks take
their notions of etiquette!  And disconcerting how inadvertantly we can ourselves be offended to the core by people acting ignorantly of ours, when we have carried our sensibilities about for so long that there is an emotional or subconscious assumption that 'Everyone knows you don't do this, or you do that...!' and failure to act correctly is just plain rudeness!  Edward T Hall, in the 60s, talked about this in his books: The Silent Language, (about many ways of non-verbal communication);  The Hidden Dimension (cultural differences in perceptions of space).

Yeah, it's definitely about social custom. In some countries it's polite to belch, isn't it?! Although even in this culture there are times it's OK to eat with one's hands, such as fried chicken (mmmmm...making myself hungry), pizza, candy bars (oh God I have to go shopping!) and my personal favorite, cigarettes (whoops...yes I know I am awful; I will quit soon...tomorrow...ten years from now at the latest...20 years I promise!)...

I agree completely. Is this what it means to do in Rome as the Romans do?

ah...ok, I'm guilty of eating with my hands...damit.
I forgot to close those blinds! Craps! And I was jumping up and down on the bed! Oh, what a world!

How about...
