CRAPOMETER
I feel that there is alot of grandstanding going on in order to attract readers, like everyone else though I find the headlines too compelling to pass up.  Sometimes though, these lowest common denominators of headlines really have some value past the title.  So what is crap and what isn't?  There is no way to know unless you read.BN really does need to come up with a crapometer system to screen out the crap from the crap.

Where are you?
You haven't posted a new blog here in two days! I miss you! Did you decide you hated it so much you weren't coming back?

HERESY! Blogs are the pinnacle of existence.

How can you say that there is more to life than blogs?

Get out more
I think you need to get out more. There is more to life than blogs.

Which Blogs?
I'm not sure if you're referring to the blogs with the truly objectionable content -- or all blogs that bring up controversial issues. One of mine, entitled "What the World Needs" will (hopefully) deal with the more upsetting current events happening around the world.

Is that something you find upsetting? If so, then why? We should all be involved in the larger topics facing our world no matter how much we may be disturbed. Some of us are truly writing here to try and bring about positive thoughts and, possibly, change. Don't give up on too many of us...

LIKEWISE
I'm not much of a joiner. There are too many things to experience to saddle oneself to one position. In this case I will make an exception.
All fo us here on the blogging network should be looking for art in language rather than controversy. Although controversy is needed at times to further ideas and ideals. Controversy, especially of the groundless variety, only serves to take up valuable space from the serious writer/artists.
Kudo's to you for having the courafe of your convictions, and the voice of clarity to further your vision.
I'm with you all the way!!!

Here's another way of saying the same thing
When someone makes a comment, I have to say something along the same lines because I have the mental capacity of a piece of shit - just  like my little coallition buddies.  Oh please join our gang.

Here's another way of saying the same thing
"As soon as you lie down with street dogs, you're going to get their fleas." In other words, this stuff - this "Hey, look at me!" stuff - is contagious, and ultimately as detrimental to us as fleas are to the pooch I just talked about.

Write Right
I'll join the coalition.  I admit that I don't read or comment on as many blogs as I should, for blogging is not all-consuming for me, yet.  I joined thinking that crazy writers were putting their crazy writing on this crazy website, but it began to seem more like a glorified chat room to me...and then the provocateurs.  The internet has a lot of online journal sites, but isn't this a online writing site?  I'll do my part to make it so.  And as far as the "Hey, look at me!!!" blogs, my grandpappy always used to say, "Son, you go down into a cess pool, you're gonna come out smelling like shit."  Don't we know it?

I don't think it's the model either.

I agree with Editormum.  I would always click the blogs I knew I'd get pissed about out of simple morbid curiosity.  Then I'd get angry at whomever it was who posted the blog, and I'd have to try with all my might not to pot a comment to that person in which I'd stoop to his/her level.

This is why I have decided to read the blogs on my favorites list and others that aren't there but I know are respectable.

I will not fall victim to my morbid curiosity anymore!

No, it isn't the model

I don't think it's the BN model's problem either - I think instead that the problem is the people who feel that controversy for the sake of controversy would get them "hits" and therefore money (those whose writing you "hit" the most get the lion's share of your money that month), and those who click on them and basically hand them their money on a silver platter.

Now, if you want to read that stuff, that's fine. But if you don't want to read it, yet feel compelled to read it, that's another matter - editormum, I feel you are on the right track by admitting this is a problem for you (if I'm reading you right).

As a group, we have to learn to stop rewarding the controversial stuff precisely because it is so often written to stir up a hornet's nest of controversy and thus reap some free publicity. (Jemmie - that's different from what you're doing. You're expressing frustration and we're agreeing with you, and the publicity I give your blog is intended to keep it where it belongs. I just hope this comment stays here for a while, like a couple of hours.)

I Don't Know That It's the Model...

I think it's more of what I wrote about a week or two ago. I was really struggling because there was someone I didn't want to read because his writing didn't merit my money, but the person's headlines usually compelled me, out of sheer morbid curiosity, to click on them. I was mad at myself for clicking when I knew I didn't need to read, and when I knew I was paying this person to waste my time and make me mad.

In a sense, I helped the system break down, because instead of ignoring the posts that were garbage, I continued to click on them. Doing that defeats the purpose of the payment system, which, if I have understood correctly, is predicated on the idea that we will click on what we find interesting or rewarding, and we will ignore that which we find objectionable or worthless.

All that to say that I don't think it's BN's system that is the problem, at least, not for me. The problem in my case is a lack of backbone. Or a lack of character. If I know that something is bad, why do I keep returning to it? That derails the payment train by rewarding someone for producing smut, garbage, or tripe. AND it dilutes the power of the payments because, if I pay to skim over the bad stuff, that's just that much less that the really good stuff that I want to support will get from my contribution. SO I am determined to strengthen my backbone and just say no to tripe.

Couldn't Agree More!
I've been away for a while, and I'm shocked by what I've returned to. Part of me wonders whether the BN model is stating to break down under the strain of misuse and increased volume of users, and if there are updates required that might address some of these problems? Or is it just down to us as users to respect the model as it stands?

Sticking To Business
I also decided a bit ago to attempt to just stick to the reason I came to this place. I add an occasional comment where I feel so moved, but my main concerns are keeping my two main 'columns' active and in the top 12. I intend to finish my contracted story and then come back and finish the novellas I have started here. One so called 'flame war' was enough for me!
