Petra II- Essence of a city
Petra, its name means the rock, and to see its ruins or look at images of it you’d think rock is its essence, after all where else can you find temples, tombs and even an amphitheater claimed from the sandstone. You’d be forgiven to think that this is the work of a people skilled in the art of stone carving, when, in fact, it is the Nabateans mastery in taming water that is the sole reason why civilisation could find a foothold in such a barren territory.
