Ramadan diary 4: Gun shots by popular demand!

The highlight of a Muslim’s day in Ramadan is when he/she hears the call for prayer at sunset which marks the end of the fast. My earliest memory of Ramadan is of me and my brother with noses pressed to the window as we would wait for the minarets’ lights to be turned on, a sign that it is time to eat. Back in the 80’s, there were four mosques that could be seen when they were lit: one to the north of our block and three that were visible from our bedroom window to the south. Yet despite having...
