One of those days
The playoffs are playing out in the football world. Some fans got to watch their teams struggle valiantly only to lose. Others watched good well fought games. Other fans, notably those of us unfortunate enough to wear the blue and green of the Seattle Seahawks aren’t sure what we saw. At first, it...

Adventures on two wheels
It all started with a map. We were camped along Priest Lake in northern Idaho. In those days, we considered it fine sport to take our dirt bikes and explore the surrounding terrain. Of course, being somewhat short of common sense, we decided that since we had trail bikes, we should ride a trail. So...

Supercross storms Anaheim
The dust hasn’t settled on the 1 st round of the AMA Monster Energy Drinks FIM Supercross series (whew, I think I got it all in) mostly because it was so wet, there was no dust, literally anyway. While it didn’t rain Saturday night during the race, the prior week of pelting had left the track pretty...

Some ruminations on sports.
Odd how we viewers identify with our favorite teams. Just ask a Seahawks fan tonight, but steer clear of those Redskins fans, they aren’t too happy right now. But was it really a blow out? In a sense, no and mind you, I am a Seahawks fan. But that third quarter about did me in. I thought sure they...

Just exactly what is JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha?
The Home Depot #20 car this year will be a Toyota Camry? Did I read that right? Tony Stewart in a "furrin" car? And what does all this have to do with the world of dirt bike racing? Well, when a team like Joe Gibbs Racing Motocross/Toyota/Yamaha is fixing to swing it’s collective legs over those...

Let the dance begin
Next Saturday, Supercross begins again as Anaheim kicks off the 2008 season. Those of us who follow the sport have a lot of questions. Will the riders provide the answers we are looking for? With the retirement of Ricky Carmichael, will it be Chad Reed or James Stewart stepping in to fill RC’s...

Another rider down
Dirt bikes and injuries seem to go hand-in-hand. So when I heard a friend of my son’s had sold his bikes and wasn’t racing any more, I naturally wondered if he had suffered an injury. I turns out he had all right, but dirt bikes didn’t have anything to do with his troubles. He has testicular cancer...

From the driver’s seat
Go karts are a kick in the ass! We went to a Fastkart track yesterday and spent 15 minutes wrestling those rental karts around a tight track. It was so much fun it probably should be illegal. Rental karts are not known for their lightning fast responses or blinding acceleration. No, they are more...

NASCAR vs Formula One
Is there any doubt about which is the top dog? Well yes, there is. On a recent telecast of Formula One I heard Bob Varsha opining something to the effect, “I like racetracks where the turns have names, its much better than turn one, two, three or four.” Ok, Bob, being a little provincial aren’t we?...
