Blowing your own trumpet.
I've always found this idiom odd because you CAN blow your own trumpet. If you didn't blow the trumpet it wouldn't be yours and it wouldn't make sweet music. Who's trumpet are you going to blow if not your own? You can borrow someone else's but for the time you're playing it, you're surely blowing... Sign in to see full entry.
