Get It Done

My family is coming to visit next week, and I don't have my new lawn finished. There are potted plants placed randomly on our front porch and in the yard. It looks okay, but not good. My girlfriend wants it to be perfect for the 4 ladies visiting from the Northwest. The half of the yard with new grass is really long in spots. Need to get a mower, I saw a decently priced hand mower, the kind that you just push, with no engine, at Home Depot last week. That would be cool. I don't know why, but... Sign in to see full entry.

Neighbor

I have a neighbor that does a lot of yard work on this street. At least, he does one other house and always wants to help with mine. He helped my landlord put in all the plants on the house he just finished renovating next door and actually planted one of the plants in my yard. Guess I didn't put it in the ground soon enough, so the landlord had the neighbor put it in. He's a very nice man, and watered my plants while I was out of town for a couple of weeks. My girlfriend paid him to do it,... Sign in to see full entry.

Wilting

I let my garden go too long without water. I noticed the marigolds wilting as I left this morning. Had to come back in the afternoon and water everything. Poor guys, completely subject to my moods, my laziness. Just busy, and upset, and lazy. Lazy. Look at it, know it needs water, but put it off. They'll be okay another day I say to myself. I tend to keep the watering can full so that I can get the plants that I know will wilt first, so that I don't have to water them all. Apparently it's a... Sign in to see full entry.

The NeverEnding Lawn

Forcing myself to work a little on getting the second half of my lawn done. I tore up all of the old weeds and grass from one side about 2 weeks ago. I spread seed, watered it, and it's coming in nicely. If you would like to hear about it in more detail, feel free to check out some of the older posts in my main blog. At any rate, I am obviously committed to doing both sides. Just that my schedule changed and I am working quite a bit more now, and find myself lacking the energy and the drive to... Lizards & Geckos, Oh My

One of my favorite things about living down here are that it's so alive. There are a lot of living things everywhere, a lot of them kinda gross, but it's fun too. Little eyes peeking up at you, little legs running away. Bugs, lizards, chickens, doves, there are even a species of deer unique to the Keys, imaginatively named Key Deer. There are 80,000 acres of wildlife reserve set aside on Big Pine Key alone, where my uncle lives. Anyway, in the process of tearing up the weeds and grass from the... Sign in to see full entry.
