THE HAND The evolved human hand, A marvelous instrument, Most complex of all body, Most bones, most nerves, Five digits, counting thrum, Slender and delicate some, Others roughen and scarred, Dexterity, strength, precision, Can stoke a baby’s cheek, Yet can crush a foe as well, Holding and swinging, Grapping, plinking, jabbing, A place of rings and gloves, Emblem of both come and stop, Where we be without them, With the hand, short is the distance, Between flint napping and the stars, Be glad...
