"...On the Twelfth Day of Christmas..."

Okay, counting from Christmas Day, today is the 13th Day of Christmas, and I missed by one... what an epiphany! Have I had it wrong all these years? Or does the count begin the day after Christmas? Regardless, I have been thinking lately that it would be a fine thing to shift the gifting part of the Christmas season to this traditional day for it. Could we do this? I don't see why not...
