There strikes as a storm through the earth atmosphere, There it claps amidst night's cumbersome clouds, There it rouses, greets, shouts, echoes, and replies, And night's festival fills districts and towns. There murdered and plundered and slain afoot, stunned, There staked for life over the world so expansive, There pitied and reveled in fire and in blood, In flowing human flesh and blood, And the nations trembling with fear and agony.
