I have written these poems over a span of about 40 years, as long as I have loved the Middle-earth that JRR Tolkien created. It was always my intent to explore and extend Tolkien's original vision, and I hope I have done that.
Some of these were written as entries for an on-line contest on a site for the fans of LORD OF THE RINGS. The contest was for poems written by teams, but all the pieces I have brought into this collection are my own: I've included only my own versions, not those that were submitted to that contest as a group effort.
Part One includes poems of the First and Second Age of Middle-earth, the mythic prehistory that Tolkien created for his world, and poems of The Shire, and Hobbits.
Part Two will include the poems of Dwarves and the Rangers, and of Arwen and Aragorn.
Part Three will be the poems of Men, of Wizards and other beings and themes of Middle-earth.
While these poems are derived from the world created by JRR Tolkien, they are in themselves my own creative work; all rights are reserved. Please contact me if you would like to have a hard copy version of LAYS OF MIDDLE-EARTH.
Dance, dance, the night is singing!/The stars in the sky like bells are ringing,/like ice, like crystal, like light on the mountain--/I am the dance and the singing fountain!/The music falters, the night is broken--/a word on the edge of the glade is spoken.../A Man, the weight of long wars upon him/gazes agape at beauty beyond him.//from The Ballade of Tinuviel
