That can be a tricky part with surprise parties. What one wants to do and how much control one wants can make for some tough situations.

Good Morning

Kabu, planning a surprise party can get complicated.  In the big scheme of things, it's probably better that Jim knows because it's his special day and he's going to want to do things his way.  I hope you invite everyone that you want to come to the party.  I hope you both have a wonderful time!

You could just use the name JoJo - then it won't matter if your little fuzzytail is a he or a she.  I remember when m6 80th birthday came, my daughter didn't ask how I wanted to celebrate. She rented a hall, hired a caterer and invited all her siblings, their kids and grandkids. I didn't have to do a thing but watch the little cousins get acquainted and start playing tag around all the old folks just sitting around. We had fun! I'm betting Jim and you all will end up having fun, even if it doesn't go the way they planned it.  Tell Jim I said 80 is awesome!

Good afternoon

Regardless if his daughter is taking charge of his party, set some ground rules for the daughter by letting her know that you and Jim will be inviting people to his special day who love and care about the two of you. Kids do have a way of jumping in on those milestone events. 80 is an extraordinary birthday. John and I are turning 60 at the end of October. I have planned a party for months, but our oldest daughter and her wife have jumped in and taken over the decorations. We are mixing the "black 60's" theme with a throwback to the 80s where everyone dresses in costume. We will also hired a DJ to play 80s music along with allowing our guests to enjoy karaoke. I don't mind the help since it will be a large party with several out-of-state guests flying and driving in for our big day. Enjoy your day. Regular smile
