Good afternoon
When we lived out west we used swamp coolers. I'm not a fan of air conditioners, but John likes them. I love the heat. We only use our AC when John is home, but even then, he only turns it on occasionally. We have ceiling fans and oscillating fans that keep the house pretty cool, and they are much less expensive than running the AC. We have rain coming, so that should cool things down a bit.

I grew up in western Washington - in the Cascade Mountain foothills. Even after I moved to Seattle, most folks did not have air conditioning then. The prevailing winds came off the Pacific, it rained much of the time, so we didn't really need AC. But now, here in the Midwest, I don't know how we'd get along without it. The porch is shady, but sometimes the breeze is hot and humid. I'm glad you were able to get it all up and working for you so quickly.
