Re: Sleeping on the Job
If the nurse has been working extra shifts and working lots of OT, that's one thing, but to take a nap on a regularly scheduled shift is something completely different. I was a shift ER supervisor, and if I had a nurse who was tired and it was quiet, I didn't mind them catching 30 to 60 minutes of rest now and then, but never on a consistent basis. If I needed them, we had a phone in that room. The ER had a tendency to go absolutely bonkers, and I would rather have staff ready to go.

Sleeping on the Job
When I was night nurse supervisor so many years ago, I missed an RN when she should have been busy. Went looking for her and finally found her in bed all covered up like a patient in an unoccupied room. I'd found sleeping nurses aides before, but an RN?
